WG5 Europe and Peace & Security

The Russian war against Ukraine has disrupted long-standing expectations about the durability of peace on the European continent – and about Europe’s continuing ability to foster peace abroad. This Working Group investigates the changing role of Europe in promoting peace in the world and will examine how peace research can contribute to designing better policies for peace in Europe and abroad. This Working Group will investigate the reverberations of current insecurities on the European peace and security architecture, its institutional landscape and the future of regional security organizations, how Europe can cope with authoritarian contestation within its own borders and globally in the field of peacebuilding, European peacebuilding efforts abroad as well as the future of European integration and what the future role of Europe in dealing with crises and promoting peace in the wake of the war in Ukraine can plausibly be.
